Press: Green Theory in the Spotlight

“Patients of the Month: Jonathan and Caroline Crandall” Maryland Leaf

Jonathan and Caroline Crandall are life partners as well as business partners. The couple celebrated the grand opening of their medical Cannabis dispensary, Green Theory, this past April.

“We’re still relatively young at this point. I feel like if you’re going to take a leap of faith in life, let’s do it and try and see,” she [Caroline] said.

“We became the first I-71 gifters to fully convert and open as a medical dispensary in D.C.,” he [Jonathan] said.

“It’s awesome for us to get this opportunity to become legal and compliant with the government and do something we both believe in,” she [Caroline] said.

“Increased investment in the cannabis community along with this newfound tax avenue could theoretically pave the way for social equity programs to benefit communities disproportionately affected by past drug policies,” Caroline Crandall, the co-founder of a newly opened medical dispensary, Green Theory, said.

“It’s also a boon for regulation and helping to continue to make cannabis safer for consumers as more shops from the grey-market could transition to legal sales.”

“We are happy about the potential of eliminating the 280E tax burden — the elimination of which we see as a way to create a more fair environment for small cannabis businesses to reinvest not only in their business, but also in the surrounding communities, without the financial limitations of this tax,” Green Theory said in a statement to The Hill.

“We believe more still needs to be done in this space to continue to create fair opportunities to those negatively impacted by harsh drug laws and we hope to see continued work by the administration in the future.”

Earlier this month, Green Theory — run by married couple Caroline and Jonathan Crandall, and partner Ian Tsang — said they became the first D.C. gifting shop to complete the transition to legal medical retail sales.
“The fact that we are bringing cannabis into a regulated market makes it harder for any children or anybody that doesn’t meet the requirements to actually get their hands on cannabis,” Jonathan Crandall said. “We are trying to make things safer and less accessible.”
